Case Study brief: Zoom has become the de-facto video conferencing tool in the last few weeks. In this challenge you need to improve its user experience for virtual events.
Difficulty: Easy
Skills Evaluated: Communication Skills, Prioritization

Zoom has experienced phenomenal growth in the last few weeks, especially with the increase in WFH use cases for enterprise. Just for reference, Zoom clocked 20x growth in DAUs (Daily Active Users) in a period of 90 days.

While the enterprise offering from Zoom is solid in terms of its usability, in this challenge the focus is NOT on the enterprise segment.

What Zoom is now building up is a consumer product, with people using it for varied use cases from hosting Yoga lessons, to cooking shows, to music performances, to family get togethers.

So, while the traditional platform used is the laptop (as is the case in enterprise), Zoom’s success in consumer use cases depends a LOT on the mobile experience. And in this category Instagram, Whatsapp, FB Live already have a lead.

Yet, Zoom provides functionality that the others platforms struggle with: Zoom enables having more than 4 people in a video call, seamless screen sharing and more.

That said, in terms of pure usability, Zoom’s app is found lacking when compared to the competition, especially for new users.

In this challenge, you need to find 3 most impactful usability tweaks that Zoom must do in its Mobile app to provide a better experience for virtual events.

You may choose to make minor design changes to create impact. However, we DO NOT encourage major redesigns.

Annotated screenshots highlighting changes needed may also be used.

Make sure to focus on the most impactful use cases.

Note: We will be hosting a mock Zoom call for you to simulate the experience of hosting/interacting with 4+ users on the mobile app. Details upon registration.
