HackforChange: Participants battle it out to help NGOs

About the Event
HackForChange is a unique UX Hackathon aimed at improving the UX of NGO websites and digital assets, leveraging the power of our community of designers and product managers. The event was made possible thanks to the collaboration with iVolunteer and partner NGOs: Magic Bus, SAFE and Udayan Care.
The virtual hackathon was thrown open on the 28th of June, giving participants 2 days to work on the problem statements. The final HackForChange event took place on the 30th of June at the newly opened co-working space by 91Springboard at Nehru Place.
We had an illustrious panel judging the shortlisted entries:

We had 84 participants who’d shown interest by registering on our HackForChange website via Linkedin. 3 problem statements were shared at midnight on 28th June, one for each NGO. Each focussed on an aspect of improvement based on the primary objective of the website’s existence. These included improving SEO, simplifying and optimising Donation and Fundraising flow as well as improving virality/awareness of the site.
We shortlisted 14 entries from 5 participants: Anish, Simran, Taranpreet, Tarun and Barkha. Each participant got 5 min to present their solutions to the judges.
The judges had words of praise for Simran for providing a detailed and insightful list of UX Hacks for SAFE. Taranpreet’s redesign of Magic Bus’ landing page was also appreciated. Both were presented iVolunteer T Shirts, badges and Certificates of Appreciation.
The judges provided feedback to each finalist and also provided detailed steps to improve. They cited certain knowledge sources and tips that the Designers and Product managers could use regularly to hone their skills.
iVolunteer and UXHack will now work with these NGOs to help implement the solutions provided. Also given the excellent reception to the first iteration, we are eager to have this event on a regular basis and across geographies.
