Vertical tabs on desktop browser

I use Brave as my default browser. Brave recently launched a new appearance setting where you can have vertical tabs instead of the usual ones

I was curious to try this out to see if it helps in a better user experience. 

First glance:

• Definitely the window looks cleaner since the vertical ones are left aligned and can be minimized, the information overload is minimal
• The focus remains on the window and I was less distracted in switching the tabs

After trying for a couple of days, I started facing difficulties in how I used to generally navigate browser tabs

• When switching tabs, I think subconsciously I was looking at the top bar. Might be because that's the default trigger in my mind
• Also especially during meeting while sharing your screen, I found switching tabs a bit challenging

So still not sure if this layout is good UX for me or the usual horizontal ones. Ideally, I would have loved a hybrid approach:
